Carried loss

I lost you and you were never here

But I felt you

A part of me

A part of each other

Paused in time, nestled in blood

Our bodies don’t forget

My body remembers

Grief and gratitude

Whole and emptied

Heart healed and heartache

Take to the grave

Chin to the skin

Eyes turned inward,

so I might see you

for the first and last time
